abc's environmental impact

Reducing our environmental emissions

At abc, we see it as our duty to reduce our carbon footprint. Environmental sustainability is a priority for the future of our company, and our planet.

Net zero

On our journey to net zero, we’re minimising our impact on the environment, utilising our own toolkit of expertise to design responsibly for ourselves and our clients. To achieve net zero by 2045, our plans are embedded within our ISO 14001-accredited management systems. We have calculated – and continue to review our Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) emissions, in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.Ahead of the 2030 target, we’ve completed our Scope 3 assessment, covering emissions across our value chain.

Waste management

We’ve integrated three stages of waste management into our day-to-day at abc:

  1. Sustainable procurement practices
  2. Efficient use and maintenance of equipment
  3. Reuse and recycling processes

We never purchase more than we need, and prioritise getting equipment and supplies from local and independent businesses. All of the paper we use is recycled, our cleaning supplies are non-toxic, and we avoid single-use items. We also have a policy of reducing and reusing waste wherever possible –from repairing equipment that no longer works, to donating unneeded items to local charities that support community needs.

Balance

We’ve long been on a mission to turn complex carbon data into actionable strategies for net zero place-making. That’s why we developed Balance, our award-winning service that helps local authorities, planning consultants, and built environment professionals deliver net zero places through data-driven carbon analysis, iterative scenario testing and nature-based solutions.
